Ship Screen
The ship screen is everything you need to create shipping labels and postage. It is split into five tabs.
If you prefer, we have a video tutorial showing this shipping process:
1. Addresses tab
The Addresses tab contains two sub-tabs, one for the "From" address and one for the "To" address.
Fill in both addresses. Some carriers require phone numbers as well as a full name and delivery address, while USPS only technically requires a street address and ZIP Code.
As you type, you'll see suggestions appear on the right side of the screen. The suggestions are pulled from PostalPoint customers and recipients, as well as a street address database.
2. Package tab
Enter the package details here.
Size and Shape
The left side of the screen handles the package size and shape.
Generic packaging
Select "Envelope" to send a USPS envelope. Select "Box" for a generic cardboard package (without carrier branding). Select "Pouch or Padded Mailer" for a small package in a soft envelope (enter the size of the empty envelope). For unusual packages, select "Irregular" and choose the matching sub-option.
For most packaging, you'll need to enter the size in inches.
If using a PostalPoint parcel dimensioner, rotate the package so the side you're measuring is vertical, and press the ruler button. Repeat for the other sides.
USPS packaging
If the item is in a USPS-branded Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express box or envelope, scan the "PS" barcode printed on the packaging. Failing that, click "USPS Packaging" and select the matching option from the list.
Other carrier packaging
For UPS, FedEx, or DHL Express packaging, click "Carrier Packaging" and select the correct option. Some FedEx boxes have a barcode on them; you can scan this barcode to automatically enter the packaging details.
Custom store packaging
Custom boxes can be added in PostalPoint's merchandise database and will appear under "Other Packaging".
If your boxes have a UPC or other barcode, scan it to both select the packaging and add the box's price to the sale.
You can also select the box on screen manually, but this will only set the package size, not automatically add the box price to the sale.
Weight
If you have a scale connected to PostalPoint, the weight will be measured automatically when you open the Rates tab.
If needed, you can turn on "Manual Weight" and enter the package weight manually.
3. Options tab
This tab contains extra options, such as signature delivery, insurance/declared value, Certified Mail, Media Mail, and HAZMAT class.
Each option has an onscreen description; refer to those for help.
4. Customs tab
For international or overseas military packages, you'll need to fill in this electronic customs form.
The left side is overall details about the shipment.
The right side is where every item in the package must be described in detail.
Many countries require a detailed description of the contents, and if insufficient or incorrect information is provided, the package could be returned to sender or destroyed.
5. Rates tab
This is the final step! PostalPoint weighs the package, runs some checks to catch common mistakes, validates addresses, and gets available shipping rates.
For accurate delivery, ensure that the To address has a blue "verified" checkmark. If it doesn't, click on the warning symbol to see a description of the problem. Ask the customer to double-check the accuracy of the address they have.
Simply click on a rate card and confirm to purchase and print the shipping label. You'll then be sent to the Checkout screen so the customer can pay. If there are more things to send, simply switch back to the Ship screen and repeat the process. The customer's return address will be pre-filled for you until you finish the transaction.
